The McDonnell Douglas F-4 "Phantom" II was arguably among the most effective and versatile fighter aircraft of the 20th century. Developed in 1960 as an all-weather attack platform for the U.S. Navy and later, also the U.S. Air Force and Marine Corp, the F-4 "Phantom" became notable for its success against Soviet-made MiG's during the Vietnam Conflict.
